Chronos and Kairos

The Greeks had two words for time-Chronos and Kairos.

Chronos is a linear, measurable, marked passing of time.  366 days, twelve months, 52 weeks, one year, and every holiday therewithin, we have now spent with our daughter, and she with us.  She has history within our family.  She knows how to hunt for Easter eggs, she knows that there is candy in our Christmas stockings, and she has a BILLION pictures of her first birthday party (complete with a Minnie Mouse cake, of course!).  She’s been to the grocery store no less than 100 times with Mama.  She’s heard her brothers fight, been kissed goodbye and embraced hello, and she has learned to have a voice of her own, (“I don’t like that!” is her favorite phrase at the moment). We know she would prefer to exist on meat, cheese and chocolate alone, she talks nonstop, she can’t go an hour without a hug, and she loves fiercely!

Kairos-a unique, divine, or opportune moment in time. I’ve heard it described as a moment where a person can nearly see around the edge of eternity.  When we got off a plane after nearly 24 hours of travelling, and saw our family and friends waiting to greet our new daughter…boys that had yet to hug their sister, grandparents with giant smiles, and friends jumping up and down, I knew that life was never, ever to be the same.  I dare you to sit with this girl for an hour, to think about where she came from, to see what a beloved part of this family she is, to hear her laugh, to see the JOY that pours out of her over everyone she meets, to watch her dance, and sing, and tap her “pretty shoes”, to watch her wrestle with her brothers, play at her very own workbench, and giggle at the dog’s kisses…I dare you to spend that hour and not feel like you are also being pushed around the very edge of eternity.

Family Rocks.

Happy first year home, sweet one!

  1. I would like to thank Ultimate Life Clinic for reversing my father's Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). My father’s ALS condition was fast deteriorating before he started on the ALS Herbal medicine treatment from Ultimate Life Clinic. He was on the treatment for just 6 months and we never thought my father will recover so soon. He has gained some weight in the past months and he is able to walk with no support. You can reach them through there website www.ultimatelifeclinic.com
